Fall Ball

Fall Fastpitch Softball Information

CAA teams for Fall Softball play in the Big West Fastpitch League. The season runs from mid-Aug to the end of Sept. Schedules will be determined first by the team ability level and then by location.  Games are played in the south-west metro area but could also occur in the greater metro area depending on game schedule.  Fall league provides an opportunity for your players to learn about the game and gain experience playing fastpitch.  It is an excellent introduction to the "travel" team environment at a higher level of play.  Teams will have 2-3 practices per week.  Schedules are posted on the team web pages. This is a season for continued play, but without a hard core practice or game schedule.  ASA & NAFA rules apply.  It is Fall ball, we play rain, snow or shine.  Double-header games are scheduled at noon, 1:30, 3:00, and 4:30 pm on Sundays.

Fall Fastpitch Information
The objective of CAA’s Storm Fall Fastpitch program is to provide a fun, learning sports opportunity for our players and parent coaches. The Fall program emphasizes individual player development in a less competitive environment than is present during the Summer Travel season. The Fall program is viewed as a valuable stepping stone for both the coaches and players to the next Summer season. Many players will be moving up to a new age division and some players will be new to Travel Fastpitch entirely. Fall Fastpitch coaches are encouraged to take advantage of situations to give players time at positions at which they may be relatively new as well as to provide roughly equal playing time to all players. We place considerable importance on teaching our players the fundamentals of softball during clinic/team practices and games. Having fun is an important factor in all age groups. At 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U however, positioning players and playing time is considered when playing the state qualifying and state tournaments, where winning advances the team.

Registration begins in July. If registration is not sufficient for a particular age group, you will be refunded your money. Click on "Registration" at the top of this web site to register for Fall Softball. Registration is $80 per player and will include player skill clinics.

Storm Fall Fastpitch Program 2018
Teams are formed at the 8U 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16U levels. Division eligibility is not based on the player's school grade.  Player division is based on the player's age as of Dec 31, 2018.

West Metro Thunder Fastpitch
WMT is being administered by Chaska Youth Softball Association for the 2018 season.

CAA Storm Fastpitch works to provide player clinics for pitching, hitting, and catching during the fall season. The clinics will emphasize softball fundamentals in fielding, throwing, hitting, and base-running. There will also be breakout sessions for specialized skills such as pitching, catching, infield play, and outfield play. The clinics will be run by highly experienced and skilled instructors. The clinic sessions are designed to advance the softball skills and knowledge of the players, the coaches, and the parents. Participation by current and potential coaches is mandatory and participation by parents is highly encouraged. High participation in the Clinic sessions and games will instill common coaching, skills development, and philosophies across all age groups and teams providing the building blocks for a successful program year after year.

8U
CAA is having our 1st year of 8U Fall Ball!  The objective of all CAA softball programs is to provide a fun, learning sports opportunities for our girls and young women. The CAA Fall Ball program emphasizes individual player development in a less competitive environment than is present during the Spring/Summer season. Fall Ball is viewed as a valuable stepping stone into the Spring/Summer season.

10U
The 10U program follows the same format as the older age groups.  MN Softball has committed to scheduling league games closer to home for each community. The total emphasis at 10U is on player and coach development to prepare them for both the summer league play and future higher competitive age groups. The teams will be formed based on skill level and previous travel experience to ensure a balanced set of development goals for each player.

12U/14U/16U
The 12U, 14U, and 16U groups will typically participate in one or two team practices a week, and double header games played on Sunday afternoons. Teams will be formed by a "coaches draft" and are oftentimes formed based on the level of play of the athlete of the previous summer season.  The Fall season entails three double headers of league play against other metro area teams, followed by a state qualifying tournament and state tournament.

Schedule
Team practices start in Aug with two to three practices per week per team.
Double-header games are scheduled at noon, 1:30, 3:00, or 4:30 pm on Sunday played away from Chanhassen, usually in a southwest metro area community
Games are scheduled for Aug and Sept (no games on Labor Day weekend)
State Qualifier tournament is in Sept
State Tournament is in Sept

Parent Volunteer Expectations
The Fall Softball season can't happen without volunteer help from the parents in the association.  Parents are expected to volunteer at the fields when CAA hosts games at jour facilities.  Volunteers are needed for concessions, field preparation, and clean-up.
